Moutet smashes racket on knee in Wimbledon loss

Corentin Moutet lost his first-round match at Wimbledon after smashing his racket on his knee three times in frustration. Marcos Giron defeated the Frenchman 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 on June 30.

Moutet served at 5-6 in the third set when Giron forced deuce and took the advantage. A miscued shot landed long, prompting Moutet to break the racket against his knee.

He handed the broken racket to a spectator in the stands before Giron closed out the fourth set. The American broke Moutet’s serve six times in total during the match.

This marks Moutet’s second first-round exit at the tournament. His overall Grand Slam record stands at 3-5 in the main draw.

Earlier this month Moutet received a $40,000 fine after swearing during a post-match interview at the HSBC Championships.
