Naylor and Muñoz exit early as Mariners fall to Nationals

Josh Naylor and Andrés Muñoz left Sunday’s game against the Washington Nationals with injuries during a 10-1 loss. Naylor took a foul ball to his right shin, while Muñoz departed with lower back tightness.

The incidents occurred at Nationals Park. Naylor was hit in the sixth inning on a foul ball off an 86.5 mph changeup. He finished the at-bat before being replaced by Patrick Wisdom.

X-rays on Naylor came back negative. Manager Dan Wilson noted the decision to remove him was precautionary.

Muñoz left after the eighth inning started with a walk and double. He described his situation as “nothing to worry about” and is considered day to day. Wilson confirmed the All-Star closer has dealt with back issues before.

The Mariners expect reinforcements including J.P. Crawford and Cal Raleigh upon returning to Seattle.
