Nigel Sylvester launches brick art installation in New York City

BMX rider Nigel Sylvester and artist FRIDGE unveiled an art installation called 'The Weight of Progress' in downtown New York City on Wednesday. The exhibit features a branded concrete brick crushing a black BMW outside Greg Yuna’s Mulberry Street storefront, marking the start of the BRICK AFTER BRICK x Air Jordan 4 sneaker rollout. The installation ties into a Tetris-inspired mobile game with sneaker giveaways for top players.

New Yorkers encountered a dramatic staged scene on Mulberry Street this week: a Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 4-branded concrete brick smashing a black BMW, complete with scattered glass and a 'BAR SPIN' vanity plate. The artwork, titled “The Weight of Progress,” stands outside Greg Yuna’s storefront in partnership with Brooklyn-based mixed-media artist FRIDGE. It launched the rollout for the upcoming BRICK AFTER BRICK x Air Jordan 4 collaboration sneakers. Sylvester described the piece in an Instagram caption: “It symbolizes the wins, challenges, and obstacles that come with achieving a goal and sustaining success. The path isn’t always easy—it demands consistency and discipline, but when you push through, the payoff is real.” FRIDGE explained the creation process: “From the start, it felt like a true creative dialogue – as we’re both from New York – there was synergy. The sculpture itself is made from about 500 pounds of foam, all hand-sculpted and then finished using CNC techniques to make it come to life. We used paint with sand and rocks in it to give the sculpture that real, gritty texture—it wasn’t enough for it to look like a brick, it had to feel like one.” The installation connects to a companion Tetris-inspired mobile game called BRICK AFTER BRICK, which extends themes of discipline and hard work from the street art and sneakers. Over the next three weeks, the top scorer each week will receive a free pair of the collaboration sneakers.
