NVIDIA launches 12GB RTX 5070 GPU for laptops

NVIDIA has introduced a 12GB version of its GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU to address memory supply constraints. The company announced the new configuration in a blog post alongside its latest Game Ready Drivers. Laptops equipped with the 12GB model are expected to ship in June.

NVIDIA stated that demand for GeForce RTX GPUs remains strong amid constrained memory supplies. To maximize availability, the company is releasing the GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with 12GB of VRAM using 24Gb G7 memory. This complements the existing 16Gb G7 supply used in most GeForce GPUs, providing partners with an additional memory pool produced more consistently by Samsung and Micron, NVIDIA explained in its announcement. The 24Gb G7 memory employs 3GB modules, differing from the 2GB modules in the prior 16GB G7 type. Partners including ASUS, Lenovo, and MSI are expected to offer the 12GB 5070 in upcoming laptop models, with shipments starting sometime in June. NVIDIA has not disclosed pricing or full specifications for the new GPU. However, reports suggest these laptops may cost similarly to RTX 5070 Ti models, such as the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S AI, which reaches up to $2,650 depending on RAM. The 12GB 5070 likely features the standard memory bus, limiting access speeds compared to higher-end models like the 5070 Ti. This configuration joins the original 8GB RTX 5070 Laptop GPU introduced with the 50-series launch.
