OpenAI releases ChatGPT-5.6 models and ChatGPT Work

OpenAI launched its new ChatGPT-5.6 model family along with the ChatGPT Work agent on July 9. The tools aim to handle complex tasks across apps and files with minimal user input.

The release includes three models: Sol for advanced reasoning and coding, Terra for everyday use, and Luna for cost efficiency. ChatGPT-5.6 became available in ChatGPT, Codex, and the OpenAI API, with a global rollout expected to finish within 24 hours.

ChatGPT Work acts as an agent that connects to tools like Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Drive, and SharePoint. It supports scheduled tasks that run independently and can access desktop files through a built-in browser.

OpenAI is merging Codex into ChatGPT Work while keeping a separate view available. The company plans to discontinue its Atlas browser on August 9.

Usage of ChatGPT Work follows Codex pricing, with plans up to $100 per month. Enterprise users can set spending limits for the new agent.
