The Carolina Panthers have placed right tackle Taylor Moton on the reserve/non-football injury list following his diagnosis with a blood clot in one lung. Moton, a 10-year veteran, will miss the start of the season but is expected to return later. The team also placed cornerback Jaycee Horn on the list.
Moton received the diagnosis in late June and began treatment with blood thinners. Medical staff assessments show he is responding well, though he will not be available for Week 1. A blood clot in the lung is a serious condition that can be life-threatening, but most patients recover fully with treatment.
Moton has started nearly every game for the Panthers since being drafted in the second round in 2017. He played all offensive snaps from 2018 through 2023 before missing limited time due to other injuries in recent seasons.
First-round pick Monroe Freeling is a candidate to start at right tackle in Moton's absence. The Panthers are also waiting on left tackle Ikem Ekwonu, who is recovering from knee surgery and remains on the physically unable to perform list.
