Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said more than 1.4 million foreign tourists visited Ethiopia in the 2018 budget year. The figure exceeds the previous year by over 100,000.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said in an interview on tourism that Ethiopia earned over 5.2 billion dollars in foreign currency from the sector during the budget year. The country hosted 204 international conferences.
Those meetings drew 166,000 foreign participants. Tourist numbers rose by more than 300,000 compared with the 2016 budget year.
The Prime Minister noted that tourism revenue will help raise Ethiopia's annual income to 1.5 trillion Birr. He added that 10.2 percent economic growth is expected in the 2018 budget year.
