Ramokgopa says Eskom is working to end load reduction

Minister of Electricity and Energy Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa stated that Eskom is actively working to eliminate load reduction across South Africa. He addressed community members in Limpopo, highlighting the provinces most affected. Tzaneen experiences the highest levels of this issue.

Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, the Minister of Electricity and Energy, spoke to hundreds of residents at the Nkowankowa Community Hall near Tzaneen in Limpopo. He emphasized Eskom's efforts to end load reduction nationwide, a measure implemented to manage electricity demand in strained areas.

Ramokgopa identified four provinces still facing load reduction: Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). He noted that Mpumalanga sees about 20% load reduction, and collectively, these provinces account for 95% of the country's total. Tzaneen, in Limpopo, has the highest incidence, leading the nation in affected areas.

The minister promised to resolve the issue in Nkowankowa within three months. Teams have already repaired four out of eight feeders, with work continuing through December. 'In Nkowankowa, Tzaneen, delivering on our promise to end load-reduction. We should eliminate load-reduction in this area in 3 months. Already fixed 4 of 8 feeders. We are coming to your area soon. We are working throughout December,' Ramokgopa posted on social media.

This initiative aims to restore reliable power supply, addressing ongoing challenges in electricity distribution that impact daily life and economic activities in these regions.
