Doctor Raúl Rabadán has decided not to assume the role of scientific director at the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas (CNIO), despite unanimous selection in September 2025.
The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities stated that it respects Rabadán's decision but regrets it. The physicist and bioinformatician, who served as a professor at Columbia University, had been selected on September 4, 2025, following a contest opened in April.
The ministry will bring to the CNIO Board of Trustees, scheduled for June 8, the necessary measures to ensure the scientific directorship functions remain fully covered. Rabadán, who had not taken office due to pending administrative matters, confirmed his resignation without further comment.
Rabadán holds a degree in Physics and a PhD from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, with prior work at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and CERN.
