The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service activated the Emergency Alert System on Friday to evacuate the sectors Valle de los Ángeles and Hinojal in the commune of La Serena.
SENAPRED announced the measure through its social media due to the overflow of the Elqui River in the Coquimbo Region. The activation of the SAE aims to reinforce the evacuation process on the ground by technical teams.
The agency urged the population to remain calm and follow the instructions of the authorities and emergency teams. The request is part of the frontal system affecting the country.
Daniela Norambuena confirmed the evacuation of 12 families in La Serena due to the river's rise. Authorities reiterated the call not to approach rivers or streams.
