President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo inaugurated the Central Ciclo Combinado González Ortega of CFE in Mexicali, Baja California, and stressed that energy production is a pillar of national sovereignty.
The plant will add 653 megawatts to the National Electric System. It is part of the goal to incorporate 32 thousand megawatts during the administration, of which 22 thousand will come from renewable energies.
Sheinbaum noted that energy generation must ensure national sovereignty, environmental sustainability and social justice. She also mentioned constitutional changes that restore CFE's status as a state public company.
CFE Director General Emilia Esther Calleja Alor explained that the plant will generate more than 5 thousand gigawatt-hours per year. This will benefit Baja California, where electricity consumption rises during the hottest months.
