Dean recorded 77 starts across 96 games in his Buccaneers career, tallying 11 interceptions and 61 passes defensed. He posted a career-high three interceptions in his final season there.
The signing drew attention for its potential risks. Mike DeFabo of The Athletic described it as a "potential boom-or-bust addition," noting that Dean has missed 14 games over the past three years due to injuries.
Pittsburgh previously struggled with veteran cornerback acquisitions, including Patrick Peterson, Donte Jackson, and Darius Slay. Dean's deal carries $12 million in guarantees for 2026 through a signing bonus and base salary, giving the team flexibility to exit after one year if needed.
