At the AWS re:Invent conference in Las Vegas, SUSE revealed a partnership with Amazon Web Services to enhance the cloud-native Linux experience on Amazon Linux. The collaboration introduces Supplementary Packages for Amazon Linux (SPAL), providing thousands of enterprise-grade open source packages. This move aims to broaden functionality for users while reducing costs and improving agility.
The announcement took place on December 1, 2025, during the AWS re:Invent event in Las Vegas. SUSE, a global leader in enterprise open source solutions including Linux operating systems, Kubernetes, and AI, partnered with AWS to deliver vetted open source packages via SPAL. These packages are built on the Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL) repository and tailored for enterprise needs, granting Amazon Linux 2023 (AL2023) immediate access to thousands of additional tools.
This expands the software ecosystem for customers using Amazon Linux, enabling support for diverse modern workloads.
