At the AWS re:Invent conference in Las Vegas, SUSE revealed a partnership with Amazon Web Services to enhance the cloud-native Linux experience on Amazon Linux. The collaboration introduces Supplementary Packages for Amazon Linux (SPAL), providing thousands of enterprise-grade open source packages. This move aims to broaden functionality for users while reducing costs and improving agility.

The announcement took place on December 1, 2025, during the AWS re:Invent event in Las Vegas. SUSE, a global leader in enterprise open source solutions including Linux operating systems, Kubernetes, and AI, partnered with AWS to deliver vetted open source packages via SPAL. These packages are built on the Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL) repository and tailored for enterprise needs, granting Amazon Linux 2023 (AL2023) immediate access to thousands of additional tools.

This expands the software ecosystem for customers using Amazon Linux, enabling support for diverse modern workloads. As Rick Spencer, GM of Business Critical Linux at SUSE, stated: “We’re proud that the Amazon Linux team has chosen to leverage SUSE’s Linux expertise and secure toolchain to provide these packages to their users. This is a rewarding collaboration driving mutual success while also enabling us to extend our foundational commitment to security, reliability, and quality to a broader community of users."

The partnership lowers total cost of ownership (TCO) and enhances operational agility for deploying complex software stacks. It is particularly beneficial for clients in regulated markets, simplifying compliance and reducing risk. SUSE's expertise in maintaining, testing, and securing packages allows customers to focus on innovation rather than maintenance.

SUSE noted that the majority of the Fortune 500 rely on its solutions for resilient infrastructure across on-premises, cloud-native, multi-cloud, and edge environments. For media inquiries, contact Rachel Romoff at rachel.romoff@suse.com.

SUSE's social media posts highlighted the collaboration's focus on unified cloud-native infrastructure, AI-ready operations, and seamless developer experiences between SUSE and AWS.
