Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba confirmed the details, stating: “During the search, police discovered a large consignment of illicit cigarettes concealed inside the vehicle. The driver was immediately arrested for contravention of the Customs and Excise Act. The illicit cigarettes, valued at approximately R1 663 045, were confiscated. The suspect is expected to appear before the local Magistrate’s Court soon.”
