Tesla logs record 207 Autopilot and FSD crashes in May

Tesla reported a record 207 crashes involving its Autopilot and Full Self-Driving systems in May 2026. The total marks the highest monthly figure the company has ever submitted to regulators.

The data comes from Tesla's filings under the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Standing General Order. The order requires automakers to report crashes where advanced driver-assistance systems were active near the time of impact and the incident met certain severity thresholds.

Tesla's total for the month exceeds its full-year count from 2021. Through the first six months of 2026 the company has already recorded 826 such crashes. Tesla now accounts for the large majority of all industry reports in the NHTSA database.

The company redacts the narrative section on nearly all of its submissions. Other major automakers leave those details public. Tesla has cited business confidentiality as the reason for the redactions.

Tesla's autonomous Robotaxi fleet in Austin has completed four months without any collisions caused by its Full Self-Driving software. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows the streak covers February through spring. Three minor incidents occurred in that period, but all resulted from other drivers hitting stationary vehicles.
