The Spring Branch Independent School District settled a lawsuit filed by the parents of a Stratford High School student who died after choking on a rubber glove. The settlement was reached on May 19. Sebastian Romo, who had severe autism, died in February 2023.
The parents alleged that a special education staffer was preoccupied with her cellphone and failed to intervene as their son choked in the school gymnasium. Surveillance footage showed the student in distress for an extended period before he fell unconscious, according to the complaint filed in February 2025. No staff members attempted CPR or the Heimlich maneuver, the lawsuit claimed.
