Mercedes Formula 1 team principal Toto Wolff has defended the team's emphasis on speed despite recent reliability problems that cost potential victories in the 2026 season.
Wolff said the team prefers a fast but unreliable car over a slower reliable one. He noted Mercedes has secured all nine pole positions this season and won seven Grands Prix out of nine.
Reliability issues have affected results including electrical problems that sidelined drivers at Barcelona and the Canadian Grand Prix. At the British GP a wheel shield failure hampered Kimi Antonelli.
Wolff stated the team should have won all nine races. He added that Mercedes remains committed to performance while addressing mechanical gremlins.
The team has covered more race distance than most rivals this season.
