Venus Williams ends doubles partnership with Alexandra Eala

Venus Williams has confirmed the end of her doubles partnership with Alexandra Eala ahead of the Mubadala DC Open. The pair had been scheduled to compete together at the Washington event starting July 27.

The 46-year-old American revealed the split during a pre-tournament press conference. “We had a great time playing at Bad Homburg, so we were looking forward to playing again,” Williams said. “It didn’t work out this time. I would love for there to be future times. We’ll see what happens.”

The duo had reached the quarterfinals at the Bad Homburg Open earlier this year. They were also spotted practicing together before the DC Open draw was released.

Williams will now team up with Diana Shnaider in doubles at the WTA 500 event. She is also set to face Anastasia Potapova in singles.
