A Florida Walmart employee has been charged with grand theft after police said she kept a winning lottery ticket from an elderly customer. Tameka Hall, 40, was booked into jail on June 15 and later released on bond.
The incident occurred at a Walmart store in DeLand, Florida. According to an affidavit, Hall verified that the man's ticket was worth $2,700 but allegedly placed it in her vest pocket instead of returning it.
She provided the customer with a receipt and instructions to claim the prize elsewhere. The man later noticed the ticket was missing and returned to the store, prompting a review of security footage.
Hall told police she still had the ticket, which was recovered from her car. She denied any intent to deprive the owner of the winnings. The ticket was later returned to the customer.
Hall is no longer employed by Walmart. Her next court date is scheduled for July 9.
