Woman fakes pregnancy and steals baby from Durango hospital

Durango's Attorney General's Office arrested Karla Daniela N. and her accomplice Anabel N. for stealing baby Judith Alejandra from the Materno Infantil Hospital. The woman had faked a pregnancy to deceive her partner in the United States and took her deception to the extreme by kidnapping the newborn. The infant was abandoned and recovered in stable health.

The case gripped Durango for two days, uncovering a disturbing deception. Karla Daniela N. claimed for months that she was expecting a child to avoid losing her partner, who lives in the United States, and also deceived her family with the promise of a birth. To sustain the ruse and continue receiving financial support, she planned the baby theft with the help of Anabel N., a hospital cleaner who provided information on schedules and conditions in the neonatology area.

One-month-old baby Judith Alejandra, admitted to intensive care, was taken on Thursday during a staff oversight. Karla Daniela, dressed in navy blue clothing pretending to be a nurse, hid the infant in a suitcase and left the hospital around four in the afternoon. She asked to use the bathroom at a nearby store, changed clothes, took a taxi, and headed to her home in the Benito Juárez neighborhood.

Upon learning of her accomplice's arrest, Karla Daniela abandoned the baby in a public space in the Hacienda Las Flores neighborhood. Citizens found her wrapped in a white sheet and alerted authorities. The infant was taken to a private clinic and then reunited with her parents; her health is stable, though it was confirmed that the aggressor shaved her hair, an act classified as aggravated violence by the State Attorney General's Office, led by Sonia de la Garza Fragoso.

The arrest warrant was executed on Saturday, and both women were transferred to Reinserción Social Center Number 1. They face charges of child abduction and aggravated kidnapping, crimes that could lead to an exemplary sentence. The incident highlights serious failures in the hospital's security protocols, including questions about contracts with the private security company.
