Women who participated in the Jantar Mantar protest have reported ongoing online harassment, including doxxing and threats, despite apologies.
Shradha Singh, a 23-year-old M.Sc. student, posted a seven-second reel on Instagram shortly after the protest ended on July 25. The video, which showed her at the site with Rapid Action Force personnel, was reposted by accounts alleging she insulted the Army. She deleted it within an hour and issued two apologies, yet she continues to receive rape and death threats five days later.
The Hindu verified multiple cases of women protesters facing similar abuse. Posts on X and Instagram urged followers to “teach them a lesson,” with one woman declared “most wanted” and her details, including a zero FIR from Noida under Sections 352, 353(1), and 356(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, circulated online. Another protester, aged 22, reported abusive comments, rape threats, and public harassment after her photos appeared in a collage targeting 12 women accused of abusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Noida Police lodged a zero FIR against Ruchika Singh, a resident of Noida, following a complaint by Smriti Singh of Ghaziabad. The complaint alleged that Ruchika made abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Cockroach Janata Party protest at Jantar Mantar on July 23. Accounts such as The Jaipur Dialogues and Hindutva Vigilant amplified the targeted content.
