Publisher Feral Interactive announced that Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will launch on macOS via Steam on May 28. An App Store version is scheduled to follow later this year. The port was developed in collaboration with Microsoft's World's Edge studio.
Feral Interactive revealed plans to bring the acclaimed real-time strategy game to Apple computers. The Definitive Edition includes content from the original Age of Kings and The Conquerors expansion, plus recent DLC such as Lords of the West, Dynasties of India, and Dawn of the Dukes. Players can expect updated graphics, music, and quality-of-life improvements accumulated over two decades, alongside access to numerous civilizations for multiplayer matches. Additional DLC, including The Last Chieftains, will be available for separate purchase on Mac, matching the PC version's offerings. This marks the first time the 2019 Definitive Edition arrives on macOS, following the original game's Mac release in 2001. It is also the first Microsoft title to reach Mac since Psychonauts 2 in 2021. The game's active community, with around 20,000 concurrent Steam players, ensures plentiful multiplayer opportunities.
