Senate President Davi Alcolumbre decided to postpone the vote on the constitutional amendment that creates special retirement rules for community health agents and endemic disease combat agents.
In her first act as government leader in the Senate, Teresa Leitão convinced Alcolumbre to respect the rules requiring five debate sessions before the vote. The measure, with an estimated fiscal impact of 30 billion reais over ten years, had been scheduled for Tuesday.
Alcolumbre stated he would follow the constitutional procedure and mentioned a request with nearly 70 signatures seeking urgency for the proposal. He criticized attacks labeling him the “man of explosive bills” and called the offenses inappropriate.
Health agents occupied the Senate galleries wearing yellow SUS vests. The new government leader met with Alcolumbre and Minister José Guimarães before the session.
