Aliança Catalana presents Jordi Aragonès as Barcelona candidate

Aliança Catalana presented Jordi Aragonès as its candidate for mayor of Barcelona on Friday at an event held in the Centro Cultural del Born.

The event, attended by about 200 people, was held under the slogan Salvem Barcelona. Aragonès, 33 and the party’s secretary of Studies and Programs, proposed a program focused on security, housing and tighter immigration controls.

Sílvia Orriols, the party leader and mayor of Ripoll, defended the choice of Aragonès after more prominent names such as Sandro Rosell and Jaume Giró declined. The party has 354 members in the capital, according to figures released at the event.

Aragonès highlighted Barcelona’s historic past and called for stronger ties with other European Mediterranean cities. He also announced plans for a municipal sovereign fund to boost the local economy and promote the use of Catalan.
