AMD announces January 29 release for Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPU

AMD has confirmed that its Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor will launch on January 29 for $499. The chip offers an affordable alternative to the pricier Ryzen 9 9950X3D and promises significant gaming performance gains. It builds on previous models with enhanced clock speeds and cache technology.

At CES earlier this month, AMD unveiled the Ryzen 7 9850X3D as a more accessible option compared to the $700 Ryzen 9 9950X3D. The company has now specified a release date of January 29, with a price tag of $499, allowing it to hit shelves sooner than the anticipated first-quarter window.

The Ryzen 7 9850X3D improves upon the Ryzen 7 9800X3D by adding a 400MHz boost to the clock speed, enabling it to reach up to 5.6GHz. It features an 8-core configuration with 16 threads and a substantial 104MB of combined L2 and L3 cache. AMD employs its 3D V-Cache technology, which stacks additional cache memory vertically on the chip to enhance performance.

With a thermal design power (TDP) of 120W, the processor is positioned for efficient operation in gaming and productivity setups. AMD claims it delivers an average of 27 percent faster gaming performance compared to Intel's Core Ultra 9 285K. This positions the 9850X3D as a strong contender in the high-performance CPU market, particularly for gamers seeking value without compromising on speed.

The announcement comes amid ongoing competition in the processor space, where cache innovations like 3D V-Cache help AMD differentiate its offerings. Availability begins January 29, giving enthusiasts a quick path to upgrading their systems.
