Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma of March and March addressed thousands outside Point Police Station in Durban. She announced weekly Thursday marches would continue for six months until demands were met.
Police Minister Firoz Cachalia said at an Inter-Ministerial Committee briefing that almost all demonstrations were peaceful with no clashes between police and protesters. He noted the R600-million security operation came from existing SAPS budgets.
Isolated violence occurred in Johannesburg areas including Yeoville and Hillbrow. Three suspects were arrested after two people including a 17-year-old were shot. Several arrests for looting took place in KwaZulu-Natal.
President Cyril Ramaphosa met anti-migrant leaders on 29 June. Ngobese-Zuma said she had requested but not received a direct meeting with him.
