Arizona man charged after threatening sheriff, seeking Trump immunity

Jose Angel Valadez, 30, was arrested in Arizona after posting threats to kill Maricopa County Sheriff Jerry Sheridan on social media and requesting full presidential immunity from Donald Trump.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office announced the charges on Thursday. Valadez faces counts of threatening and intimidating as well as using an electronic device to threaten.

Authorities said Valadez posted the direct threats on X on Wednesday. The office's Threat Management Unit located and arrested him the same day.

In the posts, Valadez asked for full presidential immunity, though officials did not detail the exact wording. The sheriff's office stated it enforces the rule of law without exception and will not tolerate threats against elected officials.

Sheridan was elected sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona's largest county that includes Phoenix, in 2024.
