Armed invasion affects La Novillera farm in Jamundí

Armed men invaded La Novillera farm in Río Claro, Jamundí, Valle del Cauca, four days ago. They destroyed pineapple crops and threatened workers, according to SAG. The guild calls for urgent intervention from the Government and security forces.

Owners and workers at La Novillera farm, in Río Claro corregimiento, rural Jamundí, have endured four days of uncertainty due to an armed invasion. The intruders destroyed pineapple crops and threatened laborers, preventing return to tend cattle and lemon crops, as reported by the local agricultural guild. The Asociación de Agricultores y Ganaderos del Valle del Cauca (SAG) links the illegal occupation to the “Jaime Martínez” Farc dissident group active in the area, noting over 100 jobs at risk, threatening livelihoods of dependent families. Owners and workers remain in fear, unable to access the property. “Owners told us they have property titles since 1804. This is an ancestral farm that has generated employment for decades in productive systems of cattle ranching, pineapple, lemon, and environmental conservation,” said María Eugenia Saavedra, SAG Valle president. The guild urges the National Government and security forces to regain control and ensure safety. It also requests environmental authorities assess damage to protected areas like guaduales, streams, and a ten-hectare water body known for migratory bird sightings. The farm has no ties to the Sociedad de Activos Especiales or Agencia Nacional de Tierras. Affected parties have pursued legal processes with Police, Mayor's Office, and Governor's Office for eviction.
