Ayuso accuses Sánchez government of abandoning her in danger in Mexico

Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the Madrid region, accused the government of Pedro Sánchez on Tuesday of leaving her in extreme danger during her visit to Mexico last week. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum responded by questioning Ayuso's criticisms.

Ayuso stated in interviews on Cope and Cuatro that the Spanish government offered her no security or transfers despite being notified of the trip. She accused Sheinbaum of encouraging harassment against her over a tribute to Hernán Cortés and of threatening the Xcaret complex to cancel her attendance at the Platino Awards.

Sheinbaum replied that Ayuso suspended her tour on Friday but stayed until Sunday in the Riviera Maya. The Mexican president said she does not believe Ayuso thinks so badly of the country if she spent her vacation there.

Sánchez's government clarified that Ayuso did not share her agenda or request protection. Groups like Grupo Xcaret denied any threat from the Mexican government. The PSOE in Madrid accused Ayuso of playing the victim after the failed trip.
