Joe Eszterhas has completed a script for the Basic Instinct reboot at Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists. The project marks his return to the franchise nearly 35 years after the 1992 original.
Eszterhas told Interview Magazine that studio executives asked for his ideas on the project. He said the script must remain fun and enjoyable, and he has now finished writing it.
The new story brings back Catherine Tramell and introduces her daughter, Jezebel. Eszterhas declined to share further plot details.
Sharon Stone, who originated the role of Tramell, commented on the reboot last August. She said if the film follows the path of the 2006 sequel, she does not know why anyone would make it and wished the team good luck.
The original Basic Instinct, directed by Paul Verhoeven, starred Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas. It earned $352 million worldwide.
