The Bihar government has restored Z category security to Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi. The couple has also been provided a bulletproof vehicle. The move comes after protests against an earlier security reduction.
The Bihar government had earlier scaled down the Z+ security cover of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi following a review. The decision had triggered a political controversy in the state.
In protest both leaders returned their remaining government security. The Rashtriya Janata Dal accused the government of targeting opposition leaders for political reasons.
Leader of opposition Tejashwi Yadav also opposed the move and returned his security citing discrimination. The government has now reversed its decision and restored Z category security along with a bulletproof vehicle.
