Buenos Aires agrees 7% pay rise with teacher and state unions

The Buenos Aires provincial government closed a salary deal with unions that includes a 7% pay increase in two stages for July and August.

The government of Buenos Aires province reached an agreement with teacher and state employee unions for a 7% increase on June salaries. The first 5% tranche will apply with July paychecks and the second 2% tranche will be paid in August.

SUTEBA approved the proposal by a wide majority during its plenary of general secretaries. The Federación de Educadores Bonaerenses backed it by a narrow margin at an extraordinary congress.

Economy Minister Pablo López highlighted the salary effort by Axel Kicillof’s administration. Labor Minister Walter Correa noted that the deal carried strong political value by also advancing labor conditions.

The accord includes improvements to medical leaves, tenure processes, workplace violence prevention and the campaign “Cuidemos a quienes enseñan”.
