Soldiers from IT Battalion 292 trained to protect IT infrastructure during an exercise in Dillingen. Generalmajor Lutz Kuhn visited the troops on site.
On a military training ground in Dillingen, Bavaria, around two dozen soldiers from IT Battalion 292 practiced defending mobile data centers. Machine guns were fired and drones launched for reconnaissance before the troops advanced again.
Generalmajor Lutz Kuhn, who has been Commander of Operational Forces and Military Intelligence for a few weeks, joined the exercise. “We are not at ‘Animal Farm: All are equal, but some are more equal than others’,” he said. “That is why I like to be on site with the troops.”
The war in Ukraine highlights the importance of rapid data processing. The Bundeswehr is currently building a “battle cloud,” the so-called Combat Cloud, as part of Multi Domain Operations. Frank Sauer from the University of the Bundeswehr explained that the kill chain has accelerated significantly due to sensor data fusion.
