Cali announces security operation for Mother's Day weekend

The Mayor's Office of Cali and the Metropolitan Police will deploy a special operation this weekend to prevent fights and violence during Mother's Day celebrations.

Local authorities noted that the period usually sees rises in fights, domestic violence and homicides linked to alcohol consumption. The operation will involve several municipal departments along with the National Police, the Army and the Colombian Aerospace Force.

Security and Justice Secretary Javier Garcés explained that neighborhood patrols and campaigns to promote respect and coexistence will take place. Justice houses and family commissaries will stay open to mediate conflicts.

Colonel Javier Martín, operational commander of the Metropolitan Police, invited citizens to avoid excessive alcohol and to plan their movements in advance. For gender violence cases, the line 318 861 15 22 will be available.
