He then handled the education portfolio for councillor Esther Niubó for two months after her February surgery for thymic cancer; Niubó resumed duties last Tuesday.
These periods overlapped with challenges in Catalonia, including a fatal Rodalies train accident in Gelida on January 20 and teachers' strikes in February and March.
Recently, Pané has faced opposition in Parliament from ERC, Catalunya en Comú, and CUP over her plan to tie CAP funding to reductions in sick leave for mental health or musculoskeletal injuries, including variable pay components. Unions like Metges de Catalunya have gathered signatures against it.
