During a hearing at the French National Assembly on April 7, 2026, UDR deputy Charles Alloncle warned he would leave the room every time MoDem deputy Erwan Balanant speaks. The heated exchange follows a perceived threat by Alloncle late February. Balanant demanded a minimum of republican politeness in response.
On Tuesday April 7, during the hearing of representatives from Arte France and TV5 Monde before the inquiry commission on the neutrality, functioning, and financing of public audiovisual, Charles Alloncle, UDR deputy from Hérault and commission rapporteur, stated: «From now until the end of this commission, I will leave the room every time Mr. Balanant speaks».
Alloncle justified his stance by an incident late February, when Erwan Balanant, MoDem deputy from Finistère, told him «T’inquiète, on va te régler» before leaving the session. On X, Balanant clarified he targeted the report's ideas and apologized, but Alloncle deemed it «unacceptable» and demanded sanctions for «these thug behaviors». The Assembly presidency has not acted yet.
In response, Balanant defended himself: «It was not you I was threatening, it was the idea that we too would respond idea by idea to your report». He urged Alloncle to show a «minimum of republican politeness» and the «decency to stay» during his speeches.
Launched end November 2025, this commission is wrapping up hearings this week. Delphine Ernotte Cunci, France Télévisions president, is due Wednesday for a second hearing, mainly facing Alloncle's questions.
