The government activated the interministerial Modo Empleo table to generate 50,000 jobs before October, amid a 9.4% unemployment rate in the March-May quarter.
Economy and Mining Biminister Daniel Mas detailed that applications for 25,000 hiring subsidies will begin July 15 through Sence. The subsidies will cover up to 50% of the minimum wage for four months, rising to 60% for women.
The plan includes 137 local employment programs in construction and urban works, with an investment of about 20 billion pesos. Mas said the measure seeks a shock of activity in low-season months.
Labor Minister Tomás Rau acknowledged an employment crisis spanning 41 months and stated the government is taking responsibility without blaming previous administrations. The measures will link from October with the National Reconstruction Law.
