India's Woman Grandmaster Divya Deshmukh received the Dynamite News Young India Country Award, presented by Chief Justice Surya Kant, in recognition of her recent FIDE Women’s World Cup victory. The 19-year-old became the first Indian woman to win the prestigious title by defeating Koneru Humpy. CJI Kant praised her as a symbol of India's rising talent on the global stage.
On Monday, chess prodigy Divya Deshmukh was felicitated with the Dynamite News Young India Country Award for her outstanding achievements in international chess. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant presented the honor, lauding her success and expressing national pride. He remarked, “It is a matter of great pride for all of us. These young achievers have brought immense honour to the country. The nation now looks forward to your future accomplishments.”
CJI Kant highlighted Divya's representation of a confident, talent-driven new India making its mark worldwide. He also commended the award jury for recognizing young talent across fields, noting its role in motivating youth. Senior IAS officer Sanjay Kothari called Divya's journey inspirational, praising her discipline and consistency. He credited her parents, Dr. Namrata Deshmukh and Dr. Jitendra Deshmukh, for their crucial support in her career.
The ceremony began with a welcome from Dynamite News Chairperson Rani Tibrewal, followed by gratitude from Editor-in-Chief Manoj Tibrewal Aakash for CJI Kant's presence. Accepting the award, Divya, aged 19, described it as a proud moment at a pivotal career phase. She said it would motivate her to aim higher.
Divya's recent triumph came in the FIDE Women’s World Cup 2025, where she defeated compatriot Koneru Humpy 1.5–0.5 in rapid tie-breaks to claim the title as the first Indian woman winner. Selected by a four-member jury including Justice Ranjana Desai, Sanjay Kothari, Prof. Chinmay Pandya, and Dr. M.C. Mishra, Divya shared the award with Manu Bhaker and Ruma Devi. Each recipient received a citation, plaque, shawl, and Rs 1 lakh cash prize.
This recognition underscores India's growing prowess in chess, with Divya's victory marking a historic milestone.
