Cold front 17 to enter Mexico this Saturday

Cold front number 17 will approach northern and northeastern Mexico during the afternoon or night of Saturday, November 29. Low temperatures, frosts in mountainous areas, and rains are expected across various regions of the country. Effects will include strong winds and possible lightning in northeastern states.

Cold front 17 will interact with a dry line over Coahuila and the subtropical jet stream, producing scattered showers with possible lightning in Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas. Winds with gusts of 40 to 60 km/h are forecast, along with possible dust devils in Coahuila.

For the early morning of Sunday, November 30, minimum temperatures will range from -10 to -5 °C with frosts in the mountainous areas of Chihuahua and Durango. In mountainous regions of Baja California, Zacatecas, Hidalgo, Mexico State, Tlaxcala, Puebla, and Veracruz, temperatures of -5 to 0 °C with frosts are expected. Temperatures of 0 to 5 °C will affect mountainous areas of Baja California Sur, Sonora, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Michoacán, Guanajuato, Querétaro, and Oaxaca.

On Saturday, punctual heavy showers are forecast in Quintana Roo, intervals of showers in Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Veracruz (Los Tuxtlas and Olmeca regions), and isolated rains in San Luis Potosí (Huasteca), Hidalgo (Sierra Alta, Huasteca, and Sierra de Tenango), Puebla (Sierra Norte and Sierra Nororiental), Veracruz (Huasteca Alta, Huasteca Baja, Totonaca, Nautla, Capital, and Las Montañas), Querétaro (Sierra Gorda), Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Jalisco, Colima, and Mexico State.

On Sunday, the front will move to the northeast, interacting with a trough in the east, causing showers with heavy rains in those areas. Its associated polar air mass will bring a temperature drop in northern, northeastern, and eastern Mexico, plus a very strong short-duration “Norte” event on the coasts of Tamaulipas and northern Veracruz. For the early morning of Monday, December 1, cold temperatures will persist in similar states, with minima of -10 to -5 °C in mountainous areas of Chihuahua and Durango, -5 to 0 °C in Baja California, Sonora, Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Mexico State, Tlaxcala, Puebla, and Veracruz, and 0 to 5 °C in Coahuila, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Michoacán, Querétaro, Morelos, and Oaxaca.

Cold front 17 will enter in the afternoon of Saturday, with effects lasting into the following days.
