Construction starts on 40-hectare port platform in Progreso

Last Friday, maritime construction began on a new 40-hectare port platform in Progreso, Yucatán. Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena and Navy Secretary Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles led the launch of the works.

The officials ratified the agreement between the Yucatán government and the Secretaría de Marina for the third stage of expansion of the Puerto de Altura. They also held meetings with national and international companies interested in setting up operations at the site.

The overall project costs 12,225 million pesos. The port will grow from 34 to 114 hectares and include two 40-hectare platforms, two turning basins, 16 additional berths and 4,500 meters of docks.

President Claudia Sheinbaum instructed that the first platform be completed during the next year. The works are part of a modernization program for six strategic ports with public investment close to 55 billion pesos.
