A Los Angeles jury found David Pearce guilty of first-degree murder in the deaths of Christy Giles and Hilda Marcela Cabrales. He was also convicted of sexually assaulting seven other women who testified at trial. A mistrial was declared in the case of his former roommate Brandt Osborn.
On February 4, 2025, after two days of deliberations, the jury convicted Pearce of the murders that occurred in November 2021. Prosecutors said Pearce drugged the women with fentanyl and GHB at his apartment before sexually assaulting them.
Twenty women came forward during the investigation. Seven testified about similar assaults by Pearce dating back to 2010. Their accounts helped establish a pattern that supported the felony murder charges.
Osborn was charged as an accessory after the fact for helping move the women to hospitals. The jury deadlocked on those charges, resulting in a mistrial. Pearce faces a minimum of 148 years in prison at sentencing.
Cellphone location sharing by the victims allowed police to quickly identify Pearce's address on West Olympic Boulevard. Christy's mother urged families to use the feature for safety.
