DJ Afro to provide live commentary for Majembe vs Mbavu Destroyer fight

Kenya's famed movie narrator DJ Afro will provide live commentary for the amateur boxing match between Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer. The Vurugu Fight Night event is set for Saturday, April 4, at Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi. Comedian Oga Obina, an organizer, confirmed the news via Instagram on April 2.

This amateur boxing bout marks the first time DJ Afro, real name James Mwangi or James Muigai, also known as DJ Amingos, will provide live ringside commentary. He gained fame narrating international kung-fu and Indian films in Swahili, Sheng, and Kikuyu, rewriting storylines with Kenyan slang and humor to make them relatable.

His catchphrases like "Pozi tena pozi kabisa" entered everyday language. Before streaming, his affordable VCDs entertained millions of Kenyan youth in local video halls.

President William Ruto pledged Ksh1 million to each boxer, totaling Ksh2 million, announced via Lang'ata MP Jalang'o, stating he supports both fighters. Businessman Oketch Salah, linked to Raila Odinga, gave Ksh200,000, while Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri pledged Ksh2 million. One sponsor offers a new Toyota Noah as the winner's prize.

Over 2,000 fan tickets are available at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, which holds thousands.
