A new documentary claims to have identified the alleged killer of television host Paco Stanley, murdered in 1999. The production also exonerates Mario Bezares and Paola Durante.
The documentary Testigos: la verdad tiene voz. Caso Paco Stanley, produced by Juan Carlos Uribe, draws on testimonies from former judicial police officers Jorge Godoy and René López. These witnesses, protected by the United States, claim that Carlos Acevedo, alias El Pato, a former DFS agent, shot Stanley on June 7, 1999, outside the El Charco de las Ranas restaurant in Mexico City. Uribe stated that the order for the crime came from prison and that both Acevedo and the alleged mastermind are now deceased. The producer said Bezares and model Paola Durante had no involvement. Mario Bezares reacted with relief and expressed hope that authorities would reopen the case with the new evidence. In contrast, Paul Stanley, the host's son, criticized the production and said it only seeks economic gains.
