The Philadelphia Eagles acquired linebacker Jonathan Greenard from the Minnesota Vikings during Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft. Philadelphia sent a 2026 third-round pick, a 2027 third-round pick, and a 2026 seventh-round pick to Minnesota in exchange. The Eagles also agreed to a four-year, $100 million contract extension with Greenard.
The teams announced the deal amid the draft proceedings. According to NFL Media, Greenard's new contract averages $25 million annually. For the Vikings, the trade clears more than $34 million in cap space, with only $4 million in guarantees remaining on his prior deal, all due in 2026. Minnesota plans to elevate 2024 first-round pick Dallas Turner in his place, alongside Andrew Van Ginkel and new defensive tackle Caleb Banks. The Eagles sought pass-rushing help after Jaelan Phillips signed with the Carolina Panthers in free agency. Philadelphia had boasted the NFL's top-ranked scoring defense following Phillips' acquisition last season. Greenard, a Pro Bowler who turns 29 in May, recorded at least 12 sacks in 2023 and 2024 but managed three sacks in 12 games last year due to a shoulder injury requiring surgery. Originally a third-round pick by the Houston Texans in 2020 out of Florida, Greenard signed a four-year, $76 million deal with the Vikings in the 2024 offseason. Trade evaluations give Philadelphia an A for addressing a key need at a reasonable cost, potentially offset by a compensatory pick for losing Phillips. Minnesota earns a B- for gaining draft capital and financial flexibility while maintaining depth.
