Egypt's Ministry of Local Development and Environment referred building and administrative violations in Cairo's El Marg and Ain Shams districts to the public prosecution after surprise inspections.
The ministry carried out unannounced inspections in El Marg district and investigated a complaint about illegal construction in Ain Shams. In El Marg, teams demolished unauthorised floors and structures, confiscated materials, and referred cases involving irregularities and delays to prosecution. They also noted deficiencies in paving works under the 2025/2026 plan.
In Ain Shams, inspectors found one building on Sidi Bilal Street had added floors beyond its permitted nine storeys and began demolition. A second property on Ismail El-Fangary Street was built without any permit and was ordered demolished immediately.
Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad directed continued monitoring of the demolitions. The ministry said it would maintain nationwide campaigns to enforce building rules and respond to complaints.
