Minister Karim Badawi announced that a special edition of the Egypt Mining Forum will take place on September 28-29 in the New Administrative Capital under President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi's patronage.
The announcement was made during a visit to Sukari Gold Mine, Egypt's largest mining operation. The forum aims to attract international participation and support reforms to increase the mining sector's contribution to GDP from 1% to 6%.
Badawi highlighted ongoing legislative changes, including the transformation of the Mineral Resources Authority into an independent economic entity. These steps seek to improve the investment climate and align with international standards.
Sukari Mine now produces over half a million ounces of gold annually after AngloGold Ashanti became an investment partner in late 2024. The company noted that 97% of its workforce at the site is Egyptian.
