The cooperative Emcosalud marks today four decades since its founding on May 9, 1986, by eleven cooperatives and Huila physicians.
Emcosalud began operations in a small Neiva premises and expanded services six months later with a laboratory and emergency care. In 1991 it secured the contract with the Fondo Nacional de Prestaciones Sociales del Magisterio after signing agreements across Huila’s 37 municipalities.
Abel Fernely Sepúlveda Ramos took the general management role in 1997 and grew the organization from 35 to more than 875 direct employees. The Emcosalud Business Group reports assets above 365 billion pesos and consolidated equity exceeding 111 billion pesos.
The Emcosalud Clinic, opened in 1999, has 85 beds and fourth-level services. The network includes 34 pharmacies across four departments, and the Emcosalud Health School has graduated 2.294 students between 2005 and 2025.
