ESX equity market surpasses 1 billion birr in weekly trades

The Ethiopian Securities Exchange recorded its first weekly equity trading volume above 1 billion birr during the period from June 15 to 19, 2026.

The Ethiopian Securities Exchange achieved a weekly equity trading volume of 1.025 billion birr. A total of 350,111 shares changed hands in 279 transactions involving the four listed companies.

ESX Chief Executive Officer Tilahun Esmael Kassahun described the result as significant progress for the young market. He added that another company is scheduled to join the exchange next week.

The interbank money market recorded a cumulative transaction volume of 3.32 trillion birr for the same week. Overnight deals reached 66.3 billion birr at an average rate of 12.416 percent while seven-day transactions totaled 49.8 billion birr at 15.634 percent.
