Three active forest fires in Galicia have forced the evacuation of 13 people in A Laracha (A Coruña) and prompted the Xunta to declare a level 2 alert in Ponteareas (Pontevedra). The fires, exceeding 40 hectares combined, started this afternoon and required extensive aerial and ground resources. A road was closed due to intense smoke.
The fires began in A Coruña province with a blaze in Caión parish, A Laracha, at 13:13, joined by another in Noicela, Carballo, around 14:20. The Guardia Civil evacuated 13 people from homes in Goxán de Arriba and Outeiro as flames advanced, forming a front over two kilometers on wooded and scrubland. Resources included four agents, one brigade, one water pump truck, two technicians, one helicopter, three support units, and four planes, according to emergency sources.
Intense smoke forced the closure of road DP-1909 between kilometers 12 and 15, linking Caión to A Laracha. Meanwhile, at 14:47, a third fire started in Ribadetea parish, Ponteareas (Pontevedra), burning at least 20 hectares and threatening homes in O Galleiro, Nespereira parish, in neighboring Pazos de Borbén.
The Xunta declared a level 2 emergency due to proximity to residential areas. Medio Rural estimated over 40 hectares affected in total by 17:00. Deployed were 15 brigades, 10 agents, one technician, seven water pump trucks, one excavator, two helicopters, and three planes. Smoke reached Vigo Airport.
